A Chinese restaurant has been fined £5,000 plus costs after pleading guilty to 14 Food Hygiene Offences. The EHO's found cracked and dirty floor tiles, no hot water to the wash hand basin, walls, cupboards and lights in a dirty condition.

 

A takeaway had been fined more than £35,000 and approximately £9,000 costs after being prosecuted for 12 Food Safety offences. EHO's found mouse and rat droppings, grease and dirt on walls, fryers and cookers, missing tiles and bare plaster. There was also a lack of hot water and there was inadequate provision for waste storage. A live rat was found in an oven. The owners claimed that they had not cleaned for 6 months as they were planning to refurbish the premises.

 

A National brewery chain has been prosecuted for the third time by the same Council for running dirty premises. The company had claimed that they had adequate policies and procedures in place but it was the Managers' responsibility to maintain the standards within the premises. The company was found guilty of two offences under the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 for failing to keep the premises clean and for inadequate refuse storage. The company was fined £6,000 plus £5,760 costs.

 

A pub chain has been fined £20,000 for a dirty premises which was rat infested. Rat droppings and gnawed materials were found under equipment and equipment and utensils were found in a dirty condition. Costs of £414 were also awarded against the company.
