Perry Scott Nash launch the third of their ‘Winning
With’ range of guidance manuals – ‘Winning
With …Disability Discrimination in Licensed Premises
- A ‘Good Practice’ and ‘How to Comply’
guide for licensees.
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) is another legislation
headache for a licensee that is causing unnecessary confusion,
frustration and expenditure. Licensees shouldn't feel they
have to appoint external 'experts' to audit their pubs and
advise them as to the actions and 'reasonable adjustments'
to be made. The Pub Manager/Licensee is best positioned to
audit their own pub provided they are given the tools to do
so competently and confidently.
Perry Scott Nash have been advising licensees on the DDA for
many months now and have written a number of best practice
articles and guidance notes. We have expanded on this information
and have developed the 'Winning With Disability Discrimination
Act in Licensed Premises', a 'Good Practice and How to Comply'
guide that is written in a user-friendly, question and answer
format.
The Guide not only ensures a full understanding of the DDA
and how it affects licensed premises, it provides the licensee
with a 'benchmark' document to illustrate 'what good looks
like', it advises how to audit the pub plus it provides the
licensee with the audit format to ensure nothing is missed
and once the audit is completed, it explains how to go about
making cost effective improvements and alterations to address
any shortfalls.
Since the majority of complaints from people with disabilities
is that they have been treated rudely, or patronised, or ignored,
or belittled, staff training is really important in order
to achieve good customer care and the manual provides comprehensive
support in this area.
All the information is supported by Case Studies to help illustrate
the points and raise awareness.
The manual is priced at £35 plus postage, packaging
& VAT and can be ordered by calling Perry Scott Nash on
01438 745771 or completing this fax back form.
Much of the DDA is subjective interpretation, meaning that
there is not necessarily a right and a wrong approach. Good
practice, reasonableness, assessments and reviews of premises,
the provision of goods and services etc will hold all business
owners in good stead. By working through the chapters and
applying the advice and good practice, licensees will comply
with both the spirit and letter of the law.
